Friendly Rivals: The Van Alstyne/Melissa/Anna Youth Sports basketball league came to a close Tuesday night after final games were played to determine over-all winners. The Anna and Van Alstyne fifth-grade girls had to play twice to determine the winning team which was finally Van Alstyne, but the competition was so tight, it could have easily been Anna. Members of both teams came together for photos proudly waving their hard-won trophies. Schools in the two towns have a long history of competing against one another. Being separated by only six miles, the atmosphere is ripe for intense rivalry between the two teams. At this age, they’re all friends.
