Well, basketball season has ended. At the end of the season VA2 ended up on top! Our 5th grade girls finished the season 7-0. We went into the tournament as the second seed, behind another 7-0 team from Anna. There was one weekend that games were canceled and it was the weekend that we were to play each other. We were ranked second because the other team had score more points, and held teams to about 30 points less than us.

We won the first game of the tournament 17-4 against the 7th ranked team. Then we moved on to play the 3rd ranked team and won 18-4! That set up the first meeting between the two undefeated teams. It was  a hard fought game that we came out on top 12-10. One of the most impressive memories of this was our team scoring 5 free-throws, including 4-4 from Raigan and Sydney at one stretch of the game where we could not score. This was a true double elimination tournament, so you had to lose twice to be out. That team dropped down into the loser’s bracket and won it to earn the right to play us for the championship.

So entering tonight’s game our team was 10-0, but that soon would change. It was not long and we were down 10-2 at half, then we ended up losing 18-4! We were outplayed all over the court. However, we still had hope because we only had one loss in the tournament. We had to play again with one hour in between!

The girls came back and played a tough game from the start. Our defense was clicking!  We play a 1-3-1 defense and it was moving from side to side because this team is a well coached passing team. It was nip and tuck and in the fourth quarter we pulled out a 13-10 victory.

The team did not end the season undefeated. However, seeing the team respond to a crushing defeat (the first of the season in the first round of the championship) might have been more impressive than never losing.
