More than a field trip....

Today Kerrigan's class went to the North Texas History Center in McKinney for their class trip. I went with her, we spent three hours at the museum. It included a tour downtown explaining the old buildings and what they were. Then we went in the museum, the first level was a typical museum: glass cases, pictures, and readings. Then they went upstairs to work with pioneer tools. They had descriptions of the tools that they had to match with the item. Kerrigan first thought that a flour sifter was a jar opener. Then they went downstairs to another experiential area. They had a general store, dressup game and pioneer games. Kerrigan was upset when leaving the museum that she did not get another chance to dressup in other clothes the time was up. The group then went to the park for lunch. Even after eating lunch, she was still upset about not being able to finish at the museum. She said that she did not want to play at the park, and wanted to go home with me. So as we were leaving, I asked her if she wanted to go back to the museum.

Kerrigan and I spent another hour and a half going back through the museum. We read more in the info area, she asked many good questions about what she was seeing and reading. I am amazed at her desire to learn. We then went downstairs and played the washer game. We played for thirty or more minutes, part of it dressed in our pioneer wear. We played about ten times and she beat me 9, and tied once!

I think that I might have had one of my best days ever, and I think that Kerrigan might say the same.
