Austin Trip
Today was a very eventful today. We had our first fourth grade trip to Austin (only three more to go!). Mom, Dad and Kerrigan made their way to Austin following volleyball games. Kerrigan had an experience that she is not used to, being alone in the car!
- Raigan stayed with friend, Sarah. For the first time in 20+ years of this trip, the students used charter buses compared to school buses. The students gathered at the school at 4am! This is a one day trip that ends with the students arriving back around midnight.
- They arrived in Austin at 9:15am. First stop was the Texas State Cementary. This is a beautiful area that has many of the founders of Texas buried there. It is also available to those who serve the state into current times.
- We headed to the state capital grounds to eat a sack lunch on the lawn.
- The students sang three songs in the rotunda of the capital. All were 'Texas' themed songs, they did a great job. (I will have a video in a couple of days to post)
- We went to a state capital museum, and started a tour of the capital. The groups went to the Senate and Representative chambers. They had a tour guide that tried to answer the questions of very inquisitive fourth graders. They were quite impressive in their own answers when the tour guide would ask of them!
- We then moved to the Texas State Museum. This covers the era from early settlers to the current times of Texas.
- We ended the day at 5pm. We are staying in a hotel with Sydney's family. After a long and interesting journey to eat we headed to the hotel to swim. The girls were very exhausted from this day of events (and so are their parents!)
