A late game hero

So soccer season has begun. Our Pink Panther team has grown from our former 6 person team to 9, adding four new players because one does not play in the spring. This is a great sign because each year we add more players on the field. We currently play 4v4. We rotate an off week, so that each girl plays half the game. Our new girls have picked up the game quickly and are learning so quick. We had a good showing last week but this week we played the Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs have caused fear in the life of our little players for several season now. Not only did they beat us routinely and badly, but the girls would leave the field bruised. They have been a much larger in size and weight of our team. We always had girls getting hurt because of their rough play. Last season one very large girl resorted to pushing from behind and was told that she could not play in the game any more because she was endangering the other players. Ejected from a game at age 6!

So today we were playing the Cheetahs. I was so fearful that they might break some of our new girls in half! Our little girls played one of the most exciting games of 4v4 soccer you have ever seen. With two minutes to go in the game, neither team had scored. 38 minutes of action without a score. Kerrigan got the ball took it down the field and took a shot that was blocked by a defender (we don't have goalies, cant use hands). The ball came back and she took another shot that was blocked again. But this time it was deflected to the side of the goal. Kerrigan quickly launched the ball into the back of the net! We had two really close calls in the final minute of play but we pulled out the game 1-0!
