Basketball Season has begun

Saturday started the little league basketball season. We now are a dual player family, Kerrigan started her basketball career this weekend. We have two VA teams and they actually practice together and then play each other and one other team from Anna. A little interesting fact: Kerrigan is the tallest player of the 12 girls! Sometimes we don't think of Kerrigan being tall, but she has hit a growth spurt. She did a good job of rebounding and playing her defensive position. She had several shots but none will drop, but she is getting there. Kristi is the coach of Kerrigan's team.

Raigan started her fourth season of basketball. She is our point guard for our team and has developed into a good little player. She scored 11 of our teams 14 points, and seven of them off of free throws. She has really worked on her shot this year and shoots with correct form. Her freethrows are a thing of beauty.

A high pressure situation came up at the end of the game. We were behind by one point, Raigan stole the ball dribbled in to take the last second shot and was fouled! The buzzer was sounded as she was shooting. When a person shoots a freethrow with no time on the clock they do not have anyone at the line with them, they are alone to shoot the freethrows. She had two shots to tie or win the game. That is too much pressure for a dad! She made the first one and barely missed the second one by backrimming it.

We went to overtime and again same situation, behind by one, Raigan gets the ball goes in the lane to shoot the last second shot and she gets fouled. Only difference is that the referee did not call this one and the game ended. Either way we were very proud of our little girl. I wish I had video to share of this, but because I coach I don't get to video it (plus it would have some incriminating video of me yelling!)
