Soccer Season...winding down

Kerrigan will wrap up her soccer season tomorrow. It is amazing how quickly the season has passed. Tomorrow we will complete an 8 game season. We took team pics tonight and it sparked some thoughts.

One of the things that I love about soccer, is that we stay together as a team. We play two seasons a year, Fall (August-November) and Spring (Feb-May). If the girls choose to return they stay on the team.  I have been coaching the group of girls pictured to the left for three seasons. It has now been eight season of coaching Raigan's current team (ten seasons coaching Raigan). I was talking to a couple of parents tonight about our team and the special group of girls we have. What was brought up was the fact that the families become connected over this period of time.  Some of our best friendships, for adults and children come from these two teams.

The Pink Panthers have made some amazing progress in the past season. In looking back and comparing them to the older team, they have grasped some concepts seasons ahead of that group. And Raigan's group is a great team (having only lost two games in six seasons). I am amazed to see our team display footwork and moves with the ball, team play, positional play, and passing. Most of these concepts are supposed to starting in the future and not seen at this level.

I am so proud of our Kerrigan and the player that she is becoming. She goes to Raigan's practice at least once a week, and holds her own against the big girls.  It is interesting to see the difference in sisters in playing style. Raigan is a paced runner. She goes the same speed the whole game, never tiring. Kerrigan is a sprinter, she goes in spurts of explosive energy.  But they have more commonalities than differences on the soccer field. Both love to play soccer, have excellent footwork and control of the ball, an amazing internal drive to score, and are flat out beautiful in soccer uniforms.
