Macaroni and Peas

As I was growing up, my Grandmother lived with us. When my mom was not at home to cook Grandma always made Kraft macaroni and cheese.

My mother never made Kraft mac and cheese. She always made homemade, and in my young mind I thought it was because it was harder to make the boxed version compared to the homemade. So I would be really nice in asking if she could make the boxed version, "if it was not too much trouble." The Kraft version was there for when my mom was gone, because my grandmother was not into cooking.

So today, I made the girls Mac and Cheese box version. I also added peas to this entree. For some reason that is the combination that she always made. No one else that I have ever told this story to has ever eaten this together.

So I told the girls why I added peas to their bowl and go three different reactions:

  • Raigan - did not eat the peas, does not like them.
  • Kerrigan - loved it, mainly because of the story about grandma. Because she knew I was talking about Grandma Carrie, who she is named after.
  • Jaidan - "Daddy, why is the corn in my bowl green?" I am guessing we have not had peas in a couple of years.

I miss my grandma, and always will.
