Kailan Roze Servati - info and update

On Thursday morning we welcomed Kailan Roze Servati to our family. She was born around 1:40p.m., she weighed in at 9.2lbs and 21 inches. She is as beautiful as the other Servat girls. She has a lot of hair, and it is blonde!

Sometime before delivery she started breathing while in the womb and took in some fluid. This was a major concern, and because of this we got to hold her for about a minute. Then she was sent to the nursery. While there they were able to pump and clear the fluid. But through the process she was having trouble breathing. She had a constant "grunt" that showed that she was having trouble with air intake. At three hours old we were told that in the next hour a decision would need to be made about sending her on to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU. The time came and passed without her loosing ground, but she also was not gaining ground either.

Kristi struggled with the thoughts that this could have been caused by inducing a week early. But in actuality the doctor said that the motherly intuition knew more than the doctor. This could have been fatal if she was breathing while in the womb for another week.

We were at hour number 8 in this process, around midnight. The doctor was keeping her in Sherman, they do not have a NICU. We were becoming concerned that we were waiting for something bad to develop before transferring her to a unit that could help her. I had a conversation with the doctor, who became very upset that we were requesting her to be moved. We had a family friend, Robin Gade who works in a NICU who was telling us that she needed to be in a facility that could handle her if her condition worsened. She arranged a facility and a doctor to accept her. At around 1am she was careflighted to Medical Center of Plano, Texas.

Jeff Burge went with me to the hospital and we arrived at 2am to see three nurses and one doctor giving her the attention that she needed. We have been very impressed with the nurses and doctors that are giving her the best medicine has to offer.  She has been stabilized and is still having trouble breathing. We are at a loss right now to the reason, but right now the best medicine is time and help breathing. She is getting oxygen through her nose. She is using all of her energy in breathing, and her breathing is fast.

Because she does not need to be stimulated, which would take her energy away from breathing and recuperating. So we have not held her, and touches are very minimal. This might be the hardest on us! Kristi has been released and has had the opportunity to be with her.

It was hard to notify very many people because of timing and concerns that we had. I had sent text messages out to inform as many people as possible, but then again you can on text so much information. I now have a computer with internet access at the hospital in plano, so emails and updates can be made quicker with more information.

We are currently in a process that does not have a timeline, we do not know how long it will take for Kailan to get through this. Keep praying and thanks for the all of the love and support that so many have shown.
