Blue Hair

Before yesterday's basketball game, Robin Gade, our assistant coach was painting the girls hair blue. She wanted to spray mine, but I would not let it happen. But she made a deal with that if the girls scored 20 points that I would do it. We have had games of 18, 2, and 14 so 20 was a goal that I thought was safe for my hair's sake, especially not having two of our main guards available for the game.

The game was 18-3 with 3:00 minutes to go in the game. We had called time-out and the girls were talking in the huddle about how they were only one bucket away from 20. Well, with that lead it was time to take out the leading scorer, Maddie Horn. She could not believe that I would do such a thing.  The next two minutes were filled with several scoring opportunities but all would roll out.

With 1:00 minute remaining, one of our girls was injured and Maddie re-entered the game. She was on a mission to score the 20th points. With less than 30 seconds remaining the opponents were advancing the ball at half court, the point guard threw a pass to the free throw area where there was an open girl. Maddie read the pass and started a full sprint from the low block area, jumping directly in front on the ball and speeding past everyone she ended up directly in front of the goal. She calmly slowed down and shot a nice bank shot to score the 20th points.

The were so excited, and for the evening my hair was blue. I did get a couple of looks when we went out to eat immediately following the game, but it was worth it.
